CAUSES OF GLOBAL WARMING

One of the major causes of global warming is from carbon dioxide. The problems occur from humans and this cause is manmade. Carbon dioxide that is having a major impact on global warming comes from cars, power plants, airplanes, and buildings.

The United States uses coal for the purpose of generating electricity. The power plants use coal to generate the electricity in the utility industry in 93% of the utility companies. Over 40% of the carbon dioxide emissions come from the burning fossil fuels from these plants. They play the biggest role in the melting of the ice caps and the global warming. This is because coal burns 1.7 times more carbon then natural gas and 1.25 times more than oil. Natural gas gives off less than 50% of the carbon dioxide than coal does. One metric ton of carbon is equal to four months of coal generated electricity, one year of natural gas home energy, and 10,000 miles of driving in a car.

Carbon dioxide that is emitted from cars is another one of the many causes of global warming.20% of the United States carbon dioxide emissions is from the burning of gasoline in combustion engines. Vehicles that have the poorest gas mileage contribute the most to global warming because they are emitting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than other cars burning less fuel.

Airplanes are also one of the leading causes of global warming emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. They account for almost 4% of global warming and is estimated to increase to approximately 15% by 2050.

The causes of global warming are occurring because of manmade occurrences and the pollution that we are putting into the atmosphere causing the melting of the major glaciers. Carbon dioxide is killing the atmosphere and we need to find a way to find alternative ways for fuel to generate electricity. The best alternative method would be solar powered electricity or natural gas methods. Other forms of gasoline for cars could be from natural gas methods and electric motors.

Carbon dioxide is one of the leading causes of global warming.
